The Pet Shop Boys and playwright Jonathan Harvey will produce Musik, a new solo cabaret show at this year’s Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
The one-woman show will feature Frances Barber who starred in the Pet Shop Boys’ gay-themed musical Closer to Heaven in London in 2001.
Barber will reprise her role as Billie Trix, a gay icon and drug-addicted rock star.
In a statement the Pet Shop Boys said: “When we wrote Closer to Heaven almost 20 years ago, we loved the compelling outrageousness of the character Billie Trix as written by Jonathan and performed by Frances Barber.
“We have all discussed for many years the idea of creating her own one-woman show which would give us the chance to write more songs for her as she looks back on her incredible career. We’re thrilled that this show is finally happening.”
Writer Jonathan Harvey said: “I can’t wait to see Frances Barber inhabit her again as she did so hilariously and so touchingly all those years ago.”
The show will feature six songs by the Pet Shop Boys, four of which will be new.
Musik will play at the Assembly Rooms in Edinburgh from 5 – 24 August.
