Protests Against Houston Public Library Drag Queen Story Hour

Anti-gay protesters rallied outside the Houston federal courthouse Friday afternoon. They were protesting the city-sponsored Drag Queen Story Hour held at the Houston Public Library because they say it violates their freedom of religion. The group of protesters identify themselves as the “Christ followers,” and claim they have filed a lawsuit against the Houston Public Library’s President and Mayor Sylvester because the library in the Freed-Montrose neighborhood should not be funded with taxpayer dollars since the library would not host a “man-woman marriage storytelling hour.” The Drag Queen Story Hour is similar to other nationwide programs and the library’s website reports, “These vibrant Queens will help to instill a sense of love and acceptance in our children while encouraging them to be true to themselves.”
