You may remember that there was a bit of controversy over Rey being missing from the horribly cheap looking Star Wars Monopoly set.
Hasbro at the time claimed this was due to “spoilers” and them not wanting to spoil Rey’s role in the film. Seems reasonable enough, since the trailers actually did a good job in tricking us into thinking that Finn was going to be the main focus of the film.
However, Hasbro has now announced that Rey will be added to Star Wars Monopoly.
They issued the statement to Entertainment Weekly: “We love the passion fans have for Rey, and are happy to announce that we will be making a running change to include her in the Monopoly: Star Wars game available later this year.”
Keep in mind, that as I said before, this was not just about Star Wars Monopoly. Not only was Rey herself missing from a few other toy sets for Star Wars The Force Awakens, we have seen cases were lead females such as Black Widow and Gamora were missing from their merchandise, too. So it seems that the geek fandom has had enough, and I can’t say I blame them.
But, not even Star Wars will get me to play Monopoly again, that family destroying beast.
