The flag, which was revealed today, depicts a man and woman holding hands with three children with the caption #realfamily, written in Russian.
The Russian ruling party has created this flag, what they are calling a “flag for straights”, in order to fight what they are calling “gay fever”.
Deputy head of United Russia’s Moscow organization, Aleksey Lisovenko, has said that the flag was created to counter the LBGTQ+ rainbow flag.
“This is our answer to same sex marriages, this mockery of the very concept of family. We must prevent gay fever in our country and support traditional values.”
However, people on social media are already giving it a bit of a twist, colouring the flag with the LGBTQ+ rainbow, or changing the parents to a same-sex couple.
