After completing medical school and residency at the University of California, Irvine, Dr Allen performed his fellowship training in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles.
After fellowship training, Dr Allen returned to his hometown to open a private practice in 2008, aptly named Santa Barbara Fertility Center. Since then, he has brought his passion for and expertise in reproductive medicine to an ever-growing and diverse Central Coast community and beyond. He is an active member of the community both through Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital and Santa Barbara’s first infertility support group, which he co-created with Shelly Osborn, a local psychological assistant.
Santa Barbara is a highly sought-after vacation and permanent residence destination, so because of this and also the fact that some countries have legal restrictions on certain fertility treatments, patients from all over the world have been seeking the personalised care and fertility services of Santa Barbara Fertility Center.
Dr Allen has a special interest in embryo implantation and markers used to assess embryo development. He has also presented research at numerous national meetings on topics including Preimplantation Genetic Screening, male factor infertility, and tubal surgery. Dr Allen received the Society for Male Reproduction and Urology Traveling Scholars Award in 2008 for his research on hyperglycosylated hCG in semen, and was honoured by the Pacific Coast Reproductive Society for his presentation, The Predictive Value of Embryo Developmental Rate for PGD Results and Pregnancy Outcomes.
Dr Allen’s professional affiliations include the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, the Pacific Coast Reproductive Society, and the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, for which he previously served as the Junior Fellow Chair and Vice Chair and currently serves as the Young Fellow for District IX.
Although his affiliations and awards are significant, the reason he is in such high demand is because of his personable bedside manner and his ability to make each patient and their families feel comfortable.
