It’s been a little hard to miss the media furor surrounding the relationship between Sarah Paulson and Holland Taylor.
Now, Sarah has talked a little bit about it with the New York Times, describing the fuss surrounding it as “surreal”.
The fuss was not really surrounding the fact that it was a same-sex relationship, as Sarah has dated both men and women in the past, but more that Sarah was dating someone 32 years her senior.
On this, she said: “My choices in romantic partners have not been conventional, and therefore the idea that it is ‘other’ makes it compelling.”
However, it very much seems that the age difference between the two is very much irrelevant.
“There’s a poignancy to being with someone older. I think there’s a greater appreciation of time and what you have together and what’s important, and it can make the little things seem very small. It puts a kind of sharp light mixed with a sort of diffused light on something. I can’t say it any other way than there’s a poignancy to it, and a heightened sense of time and the value of time.”
“If my life choices had to be predicated based on what was expected of me from a community on either side, that’s going to make me feel really straitjacketed, and I don’t want to feel that,” she said. “What I can say absolutely is that I am in love, and that person happens to be Holland Taylor.”
Then, she went on to describe Holland as “probably the most exquisitely beautiful woman I’d ever seen.”
At the time of writing, Sarah and Holland have been dating for a year, and they are undoubtedly very cute together. You can read the full interview with the NYT, here. Have you followed us on Facebook and Twitter?
