According to a poll from Gallop, a new high of 60% of Americans say they are satisfied with the acceptance of gays and lesbians in the US.
Also, 16% of Americans want to see more acceptance of LGBT people and 14% want to see less. Unsurprisingly, Democrats remain the most satisfied group at 67%.
59% of Independents and 54% of Republicans are satisfied on the issue.
These results are rather pleasing to see, as only 10 years ago satisfaction was at 32%, and last year it was at 53%.
Satisfaction reached it’s lowest point of 27% during George W Bush’s presidency, who called for a constitutional ban on gay marriage in 2004.
For those of you wondering, the Gallop’s poll results are based from telephone interviews conducted between 6-10 January with a random sample of 1,012 adults.
