Elton John has unveiled plans to adopt his popular musical, Billy Elliot, into a movie.
Speaking with the BBC after the show’s 10th anniversary performance, the Rocket Man said: “It would be lovely to do a film version.
“There are other songs that we had had to leave out of the musical that would be great in the film.”
“You can only do so much on stage with the material you’ve got and the length of the show, so I think if one did a movie of this show it would be nice to change some things and maybe put something fresh in.”
Billy Elliot tells the story of an 11-year-old boy with a passion for ballet dancing, which flies in the face of the expectations of his family. The musical explores how the boy pursues his love for ballet, but also his father’s journey to accept his son’s talent.
Billy Elliot first opened its doors doors in May, 2005, and has been enjoyed by over 10 million people worldwide. Its immense popularity has meant its run has been extended in London until December 2016.
