Stephen Fry has officially confirmed that he is to marry his partner, Elliott Spencer, after the news was leaked by the Sun newspaper.
Writing on Twitter the 57-year-old comedian and broadcaster said: "Oh, it looks as though as certain cat as been let out of the bag.
"I'm very happy of course but had hoped for a private wedding. Fat chance!"
Fry gave formal notice to marry the 27-year-old Spencer at a register office in Dereham, Norfolk.
A source told the newspaper that Fry, who has suffered from depression in the past, had found a "new lust for life" after meeting Spencer.
"He has found new hope in Elliott and they thrive off one another," they added.
Fry separated from Daniel Cohen, his former partner of 14 years in 2010, and started a relationship with actor Steven Webb, 27 years his junior, who he had met on the set of the gay-themed film House of Boys in 2009.
Thousands of fans have already congratulated Fry on Twitter.
His personal assistant said: "Stephen Fry is very happy and proud to say that he has set the wheels in motion for a wedding sometime in the future but no date has been set due to a busy work schedule."
