Things to Do This Weekend – 18-20 December

Looking for something to do this weekend? This is your definitive guide which will come every week, telling you what’s happening this weekend. As you know, this can range from one off events, long running events, or just cool places or good clubs to visit.

Christmas is almost here, and for a lot of us, this week is the last working week before the holidays truly begin. So, what better way to kick off celebrations than with Dinerama?

Dinerama is another street feast, taking place at a two-storey site at Shoreditch Yard, just down the road from Shoreditch High Street station. This event is on both Friday and Saturday, and with the unseasonably warm weather, it should be an absolute treat.

There are 15 different food vendors, serving everything from B.O.B’s lobsters to Fundi Pizza. This event is free before 7pm and £3 after. Get more info here.

There is also the unique Disco Pinic taking place at Safehouse 1 near Peckham Rye station, with a blend of DJs, food and installations. Music will be going on until 1 am, so if you’re after a bit of party, this is it. This on both Friday and Saturday, with free entry before 8pm and £3 after. Get more info at their Facebook page.

If you’re after some last minute Christmas gifts, there is the Islington Christmas Market, taking place at the Islington Green near Angel station.

The Islington Christmas Market returns this December on Islington Green in time for the 2015 Christmas shopping rush, bringing a refreshing alternative to Christmas gift shopping.”

Now with over 70* hand picked quality exhibitors from all over the UK, this revamped seventeen day London Christmas Market promises to be bigger and better than ever before! So bring your Christmas list and do all your Christmas shopping in one go.”

This is the final weekend of the Christmas Market, and to celebrate that they will be having an extra 40+ brand new exhibitors. The market is free, so check out their website for more information.

Sick of all the ice rinks? Well, we have Birdie’s crazy golf club taking place at The Vaults near Waterloo.

Birdies, the latest venture from pop-up cinema experts Rooftop Film Club, is set to transform London Waterloo’s subterranean vaults into an underground golfing destination fit for any budding Tiger Woods.”

A challenge for even the most confident tee-time trickster, the bespoke nine hole course serves up loops, half-pipes, hidden putt-off prizes and even an elevated 5ft drop onto the nerve-wracking sixth hole. Budding urban golfers will also enjoy a selection of London’s finest food offerings, cocktail clubhouse Caddyshack and a topnotch winter line-up of resident DJs.”

Tickets are £9 per person, get them (and more info) here.

For anyone who is even slightly into their sci-fi, films, or anything geeky, the biggest event of this weekend is undoubtedly Star Wars: The Force Awakens. I will be attending a showing of it myself on Friday!

This film needs no introduction, and while I doubt you will be able to find many locations in London with tickets remaining for the opening weekend – try your luck here.

As always, let’s finish up with any gigs taking place this weekend. To kick off, we have symphonic Goth legends Nightwish, who are playing at the SSE Wenbley Arena. Unsurprisingly, these tickets are sold out so it’s a trip to sites such as GetMeIn if you wish to go, luckily there are both seating and standing left at not too bad prices.

Also playing this weekend (and thankfully not sold out) are familiar faces in death metal, Bloodbath. They will be crushing the Electric Ballroom on Friday, with tickets running about £19. Get them here.

Aside from the usual old favourites (check the other posts for those), there is an event taking place at The Dev in Camden on Saturday

Four bands will be playing for absolutely free, so check out the details at their Facebook page.

If the music isn’t to your taste this time, I would still recommend The Dev for your Christmas Eve night out. I myself attended a few years ago and it was a great time.

Whatever you end up doing, have a great weekend and a merry Christmas!
