Olympic medalist Tom Daley made a rather low key announcement today, revealing that he and his partner Dustin Lance Black are engaged.
Instead of a big, public announcement, Tom shared his news with the world with a segment in the Births, Deaths and Marriages section of The Times this morning.
The announcement reads: “The engagement is announced between Tom, son of Robert and Debra Daley of Plymouth, and Lance, son of Jeff Bisch of Philadelphia and Anne Bisch of Lake Providence.”
The pair first went public with their relationship back in 2013, when Tom made a YouTube video in which he spoke frankly about his sexuality. He didn’t name Dustin in the video, but since the announcement the couple have been publicly and mutually supportive to each other, as well as sharing their holiday photos and other such things with their fans.
During the video, Tom spoke openly, saying: “In spring this year, my life changed massively when I met someone, and they make me feel so happy, so safe and everything just feels great. That someone is a guy.”
“It did take me by surprise a little bit. It was always in the back of my head that something like that could happen. But it wasn’t until spring this year that something just clicked. It felt right and I thought ‘OK’. And my whole world changed there and then.”
