High-street fashion chain Topshop has confirmed that all its changing rooms are now gender-neutral.
The change came in the summer, but staff were not adequately informed.
The issue came to light after trans performance artist Travis Alabanza was asked in its Manchester store to use the male rather then the female changing room to try on dresses.
Alabanza said that the assistant “wasn’t rude but wasn’t sympathetic either.
“They clearly need to train the staff about what it means to serve every kind of customer, how to advocate for us and respond against people who are phobic.”
A spokesman for Topshop said: ” All Topshop and Topman customers are free to use any of the fitting rooms located within our stores.”
