Coming out, whether it be as lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender as in this case, can be difficult. So, when transgender man Henry Tadebois decided it was time to come out to his friends and family, he decided to come out in a very unique and humorous way.
Henry decided to create a very well executed and rather funny video in order to come out, and when Henry spoke about it he said that he wanted to do it in a way that wasn’t all “doom and gloom”.
In the video, he states: “You might know me from school, or work. Or maybe you’re a member of my family. Up until now, I have represented the L. But actually, I hail from a different twinkle in the rainbow.”
But he doesn’t just stop there, he even does a pretty good job of explaining what exactly his transition means and how his family and friends can help out.
“There’s a couple of teeny things I need you to change, that would really help me out. Firstly, using my new name. And of course, the pronouns to match. I’ll still be the same person you’ve always known. I just need to make the outside match the inside.”
BuzzFeed decided to speak to Henry about the video, and why he decided this would be the best way to come out everyone he knew.
“I didn’t want to be all serious, doom and gloom. Humour creates trust, and if you can laugh at something, it’s not a big deal. Whenever I see people later on, if I have a beard or I sound really different, they might be like, ‘Woah’. I thought it would make it less shocking and weird for everybody.”
And, happily, the reaction to his video from his family and friends has been positive.
“I’m really lucky, I have a supportive group of friends, my family are behind me. I know other people aren’t as lucky as me.”
