Transgender Woman Delayed By Airport Staff For Anatomical “Anomaly”

A transgender woman by the name of Shadi Petosky has claimed that she was delayed by airport staff at Orlando International Airport because they thought her anatomy didn’t match her gender identity.

Shadi is both a writer and producer, and tweeted about her ideal as it happened and also said that she missed her flight because of it.

She spoke with NBC News via a text message following the incident, saying: “I stepped into the full body scanner, the TSA agent looked at me and pressed the F button. The scanner picked up an ‘anomaly’ in my crotch area. I said, ‘I’m transgender. That’s my penis’. The TSA officer then said something like, ‘If you are a man, then go back in the machine and we’ll run you as a man.'”

The TSA agent then said to her that she needed to run the scan as either a man or a woman, to which she replied: “I’m transgender. I am a woman, but I have an atrophied penis, trying to make it kind of not a big deal.”

To which, the agent replied: “If you don’t want to be run as a man, we’ll have to search you. Are you a man or a woman?”

Then, Shadi was asked whether or not she wanted to be searched by a man or a woman.

“I kind of froze. I have never been flagged in the groin before and didn’t want to make a female officer touch there, but didn’t want a man to do the pat down.”

The Transportation Security Administration made a statement regarding the events, saying that it takes “all potential civil rights violations very seriously. We are looking into the situation now for further information.”

After finally making it through TSA’s security, Shadi was left with a naturally bitter taste.
