I don’t think anyone knows what to expect from Donald Trump anymore. So, who would have predicted that his campaign would begin selling merchandise targeted to LGBT voters? Definitely not us!
In recent weeks, Trump has started to change his message to focus more on gaining minority voters. He’s been reaching out, trying to make a grab towards the African American community by saying: “I’m asking for the vote of every single African-American … who wants to see a better future. Look how much African-American communities have suffered under Democratic rule. To those I say the following: What do you have to lose by trying something new like Trump? What do you have to lose?”
It seems that blacks aren’t the only minorities he’s targeting now. With his new shirts stating “LGBTQ for Trump” he’s certainly trying to court gay voters in a more overt way, and admittedly, he is the first Republican candidate to do so.
However, much of the LGBT community isn’t buying Trump’s views or his shirts. Michelangelo Signorile, Huffington Post’s queer voices editor said: “there is absolutely no evidence anywhere of Donald Trump promoting gay ‘rights’ or talking openly about them — except to take them away.”
As you may remember, though, LGBT advocate and Paypal billionaire, Peter Theil, spoke at the Republican National Convention praising Trump.
We don’t think these shirts, however, will be enough to sway the majority of the LGBT community to vote for the egotistical anomaly who is the Donald. What do you all think?
