Miley Cyrus closed the MTV Video Music Award’s in colourful, fantastic style on Saturday when she performed her new single alongside 30 drag queens.
The star was introduced onto the stage by the transgender youth who was featured in the Happy Hippie Foundation’s InstaPride campaign.
“The truth is, tonight does matter. Why? Because of all the sticky, young impressionable minds of our future who are watching us right now, Always say what you mean, and mean what you say, and in the words of tonight’s host and final performers, stop talking about it, and just do it.”
Miley then strutted onto the stage alongside 30 drag queens, some of whom are favourites in RuPaul’s Drag Race; these were Willam, Pearl, Courtney Act and Miss Fame and transgender model Carmen Carerra.
In a recent interview with MTV, Miley said that she wanted to show young people that treating everyone with respect is “our greatest responsibility as people. People need to see every type of human being on that stage being celebrated.”
