Wedding magazine shuts down after same-sex row

An Australian wedding magazine has shut down after it refused to feature same-sex married couples.

Founders of White magazine Luke and Carla Burrell said they were forced to shut down after advertisers stopped placing ads, following criticism of the couple’s stance on same-sex marriage.

The couple cited their Christian beliefs for banning same-sex weddings from appearing in the magazine.

“White Magazine has always been a secular publication, but as its publishers, we are Christian. We have no agenda but to love,” they wrote.

However, White photographer Lara Hotz, who is in a same-sex marriage, said: “It appears they are happy to take money, content and photographs from LGBTQI advertisers and contributors, but are yet to support and represent us in the same way as heterosexual couples are represented in the magazine.”

Last year Australia voted overwhelmingly in favour of same-sex marriage.
