Eric Porterfield, a GOP member of the West Virginia House Delegates has told a reporter that “the LGBTQ is a modern version of the Ku Klux Klan, without wearing hoods with their antics of hate.” This comes less than a week after he used the term “faggot” in session and suppored an anti-LGBT discrimination bill that would have allowed discrimination towards the community even if cities have passed protections for LGBT people. West Virginia is one of the states that does not protect sexual identity or orientation in their civil rights laws.
Fortunately, the misguided amendment was voted down in session. The House Speaker, Republican Roger Hanshaw, did not want to comment yet until he had the chance to speak with Porterfield, but at least expressed that he would not be in agreement with the statements made.
Porterfield also claimed that “the LGBT is the most socialist group and they don’t protect gays” and also that “there are many gays they persecute if they do not line up with their social ideology.” He has also called the LGBTQ community a “terrorist group,” and feels that the continued anger towards his hateful comments validate his intolerant stance.
