Zachary Quinto may have been embroiled in some controversy recently, there is no denying that he is not only a very talented actor, but also still remains a favourite for many.
Now, he has spoken to the Telegraph about numerous things, but one of the topics they touched on is his success.
“I work more now than I ever did when I was in the closet, and I’m doing a wider range and variety of roles than I ever did before I came out. I feel like that’s what I need to keep demanding of myself and what I need to keep demanding of the industry.”
That’s not to say that being openly gay in Hollywood is without it’s challenges, though. Zachary went on to acknowledge that Hollywood is still lacking in diversity, even if it is (in my opinion) better than it used to be.
“For me, personally, it’s interesting, because I looked around when I got Star Trek, and I said to myself, ‘Who could I look to for guidance for how to navigate this path that I’m on?’ And there wasn’t anybody.”
But, according to him, despite how far we have come, this hasn’t really changed.
“I look around and say ‘OK, yes, there’s a lot of gay actors that are open, many more now than there were 10 years ago. But I still feel like I’m occupying kind of a unique space. I feel like that’s what I need to keep demanding of myself and what I need to keep demanding of the industry.”
